Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)
Use your own Anthropic API key to pay Anthropic directly, bypassing Assay's credit system entirely.

Setting Up BYOK
- Go to Settings in your dashboard
- Find the API Settings section
- Click Add API Key
- Paste your Anthropic API key
- Click Save
Your key is encrypted and stored securely. We never log or expose your full key.
Getting an Anthropic API Key
- Sign up at console.anthropic.com
- Navigate to API Keys
- Click Create Key
- Copy the key (it's only shown once)

BYOK uses Anthropic's standard API pricing. Compare to Assay credits:

With BYOK, you get Anthropic's volume discounts if you have a committed use agreement.
Model Routing
Model/provider routing is system-managed by Assay and may be configured by operators. BYOK changes billing behavior; it does not enable per-user model selection.
Security
Your API key is:
- Encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage
- Never logged or transmitted in plain text
- Only decrypted at review time
- Revocable at any time
Managing Your Key
View Key
In Settings, you'll see a preview of your key (first/last few characters).
Remove Key
Click Remove to delete your key. You'll return to using Assay credits.
Rotate Key
To update your key:
- Remove the existing key
- Add your new key
Troubleshooting
Invalid API Key
- Ensure you copied the full key
- Check the key hasn't been revoked in Anthropic console
- Verify your Anthropic account is in good standing
Rate Limits
BYOK is subject to your Anthropic account's rate limits. If you hit limits:
- Upgrade your Anthropic tier
- Or switch back to Assay credits (we have higher limits)
Billing Issues
BYOK charges appear on your Anthropic invoice, not Assay. Contact Anthropic support for billing questions.
